The writing instructions are on the back of the label. However, here are some additional tips and hints that will make the process much easier. It isn't necessary to write on the sippy cup labels at all as you can see, but the bands do supply a space for you to do this if you choose. Most children identify their sippy cups by the design of the label whether it be the garden bugs or the zoo animal bands, but if other information is needed, here is our advice.
TIPS TO ACCOMPANY WRITING INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BACK OF THE PACKAGING.
***Update: Due to variable experiences reported by customers when using Sharpie markers, we suggest you use ballpoint pens. Also, due to variability in the temperature of water in different dishwashers, we recommend the boiling method for making writing longer-lasting.***
1) In general, ballpoint pen works better for staying on the bands than Sharpie.
2) If you choose to write with a Sharpie on just about anything, you need to give it time to dry or else some or all of it will transfer onto your hands when you touch it. If you want to use a Sharpie for daily use, let it dry for an hour or two before using the band.
3) The heat of the hot water, followed by cooling to room temperature is what helps seal writing in to make it longer lasting. Boiling the bands for 10 minutes after writing on them, and then letting them cool should work (again, give a Sharpie time to dry before boiling). Some fading of the writing may occur over time. If fading occurs, re-apply writing and repeat the boil-cool cycle described above.
4) We had a conversation with a Whirlpool dishwasher repair crew. They said most people don’t realize the temperature of their dishwasher cycle has a significant correlation to the temperature of your kitchen sink water at the start of the cycle, since most kitchen sinks and dishwashers are on the same water line. If your tap water is cold before you start the dishwasher cycle your dishwasher cycle takes longer to heat up and will not be near as hot as if you started with hot water. Since washing dishes takes three things- mechanical action of water spraying, detergent, and heat, your dishes will also come out cleaner. Try it yourself. If you are still having trouble, please try the boiling method (and let us know you are having trouble so we can see if there is another issue we can help solve!).
